FOOT MRI AXIAL REFERENCE LINE

FOOT MRI AXIAL IMAGING PLANE

FOOT MRI AXIAL IMAGING PLANE

FOOT MRI AXIAL REFERENCE LINE
Imaging Planes:Axial Imaging Plane Prescribe plane parallel to 2rd or 3rd metatarsal.  Scan foot from navicular through phalanges.

TECHNICAL NOTES:

  • Use Sag LOC and angle parallel to the shaft of either the 2ndor 3rdmetatarsals (whichever is the least deformed) and at least cover the soft issues superior and inferior to the MTP joints
  • Cover all of the toes (if requested) and as far proximal as the field of view allows (SHOULD BE TO THE TALONAVICULAR JOINT)
  • Use Axial LOC and angle parallel to the superior cortices of the 2nd and 3rdmetatarsal necks
  • Proximal Sat Band

FOOT MRI CORONAL REFERENCE LINE

FOOT MRI CORONAL IMAGING PLANE

Coronal Imaging Plane
Prescribe plane parallel to 1stand 5th metatarsal Shafts. Scan through entire foot.

Technical Notes:

  • Perpendicular to AX (Long Axis) T1 - Angled parallel to 2nd MTP joint or perpendicular to 2nd metatarsal shaft
  • Cover at least to the talonavicular joint

FOOT MRI SAGITAL REFERENCE LINE

FOOT MRI SAGITAL IMAGING PLANE
Sagittal Imaging Plane
Prescribe plane perpendicular to coronal Plane. Scan through entire foot.
Technical Notes:

  • Perpendicular to AX T1 and COR STIR
  • Parallel to 2nd metatarsal shaft on Axial T1 sequence
  • Cover from tips of the toes (if requested) as far proximal as the FOV allows
  • Cover from medial margin of 1st MTP joint as far lateral as the slices go (cover all of the MTP joints)
