  • Three-plane positioning scout.
  • FLAIR Axial
  • T1 Axial
  • GRE Axial.
  • Coronal proton density (PD)/T2-weighted turbo spin echo.
  • Ax FSE T2 Hi-Res (foramen magnum to AC/PC line)
  • Cor FSE T2 Hi-Res (post. 4th ventricle to mid globe)
  • Post contrast T1-Axial
Optional:
  • Post contrast T1 High resolution 3D Fat sat with flow compensation.

Post contrast T1-weighted transverse:Although cavernomas may exhibit enhancement, we will be looking mainly for other enhancement related lesions such as venous angiomas or hemorrhagic tumors. Some of these other lesions may not be appreciated on noncontrast examinations.
Gradient echo sequences are the most sensitive sequences for cavernomas. This makes them the preferred sequence for locating cavernomas in patients who tend to have multiple lesions.
